COVID-19 case confirmed at St. Mary's French Immersion

Another school has been added to the list of those in Windsor-Essex reporting a COVID-19 case.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board reported Tuesday afternoon that a confirmed case is connected to St. Mary's Catholic Elementary School in Maidstone.

No students have had to be dismissed since the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit ordered all school buildings closed this week, with students shifting to online learning. However, the school board is following procedure and alerting the community.

Parents of any students that may have had close contact with the individual have been notified, and are urged to monitor their children for any symptoms.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the official WECDSB website reported a total of 11 active cases throughout nine school buildings. There are currently no outbreaks in the English Catholic board.

Meanwhile, at the Greater Essex County District School Board, there were 20 active student cases and one staff case as of Tuesday afternoon. Two came from Essex Public School, but no outbreak was declared there.

On Tuesday, the public school board also reported a new case at Centennial Central Public School in Comber.
