UPDATE: Outbreak cases at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare continue to climb

With the results of some tests still pending, a COVID-19 outbreak at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare in Windsor has grown to now include 34 people.

A statement from the hospital on Saturday afternoon said that 23 healthcare workers have tested positive so far, along with 11 patients.

The outbreak was declared on November 28 on the third floor of the hospital’s rehabilitation tower.

"The investigation into the outbreak continues, and in some cases it is difficult to categorically assign these positive results to the outbreak at this time," read the statement. "In the interests of transparency, we will be reporting all positive results, although they may or may not be related to the outbreak. At the conclusion of the outbreak and when we have completed the investigation we will make any needed adjustments to the results allocated to the outbreak and those associated with community spread."

Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare continues to pause all admissions to its inpatient restorative care programs. According to the statement, the decision will be assessed every 24 hours. All other restrictions implemented continue to be in place.

"We recognize the impact that this situation has on our hospital system. We continue to work very closely with the Windsor Essex-County Health Unit and are keeping our acute care partners updated daily. We remain committed to resolving the outbreak as quickly as is safe to do so."
