The local English Catholic school board reported Friday evening that another group of students has been dismissed from a school due to COVID-19 exposure.
A cohort of 19 students was sent home from Corpus Christi Middle School after the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board was made aware of a positive case of coronavirus tied to the school.
"The individual confirmed case was part of the Sports Academy program at Central Park Athletics and was not in attendance at the main campus of Corpus Christi," said board spokesman Stephen Fields in an email to Blackburn News.
Corpus Christi Middle School's main campus shares a complex with F.J. Brennan Secondary School off Wyandotte Street East.
Fields added that this cohort is separate from one that was dismissed last week, which also involved a positive case connected to the Sports Academy. The dismissal was made after consultation with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, and any parents of students that had likely contact with the positive case have already been notified.
"A voice message to the entire school community was sent home this evening to reassure parents that if they have not been contacted by the health unit, they have not been identified as close contacts and their children may continue attending school as usual," said Fields.
The affected cohort sent home Friday has been told not to report to the physical campus until they are given clearance to do so, and to continue learning from home. Parents are asked to monitor their children for symptoms. If they feel ill, children should be kept home and their healthcare provider should be called to get further instructions.
Corpus Christi School is open for class on Monday as usual to all other students.
As of Monday, the Catholic board will have no buildings closed due to COVID-19 after W.J. Langlois School in Windsor was given the green light to reopen.
