Trucker busted at border with 450 pounds of pot

Border police in Michigan have seized close to 500 pounds of marijuana after a truck driver attempted to smuggle the pot across the border from Windsor.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the tractor trailer was referred to secondary inspection at the Fort Street Cargo Facility in Detroit on Monday after crossing the Ambassador Bridge.

The cargo, which was labelled as peat moss in the vehicle's manifest, was x-rayed before being physically searched by officers and a canine unit.  Border police discovered around 450 pounds of marijuana concealed in 13 boxes, among other legitimate cargo. THC gummies were also seized from the cab of the tractor trailer.

The marijuana was seized by border police, along with the entire tractor trailer.

The driver of the vehicle was issued a $5,000 fine and denied entry into the United States. He was then escorted back to Canada.
