Kingsville, Essex, Lakeshore shut down rec facilities

Another three municipalities in Windsor-Essex have shut down their recreation facilities now because of stricter restrictions aimed at fighting the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the region.

Kingsville has suspended ice rentals and on-ice programming until the province eases restrictions.

The "Red" or "Control" phase of the province's COVID-19 response framework limits sports and recreational facilities to just ten people indoors. It also prohibits games and scrimmages.

The town said it consulted with user groups.

Operations at the arenas at the Essex Centre Sports Complex and the Harrow and Colchester South Arena are also suspended.

"For most of our user groups, the new limitations reduced the feasibility of hosting regular practices or activities at our local arenas," said Doug Sweet, the CAO and Director of Community Services with the Town of Essex.

The walking track at the Essex Centre Sports Complex is also closed to the public, but in-person programs will continue under the current guidelines.

Lakeshore has closed the Atlas Tube Centre and suspended all recreation programs.

On Monday, Windsor, LaSalle, and Leamington closed their municipal recreation facilities.
