COVID-19 forces closure of Windsor Mosque

One of Windsor's places of worship has closed temporarily due to a confirmed case of coronavirus.

The Windsor Islamic Association reported via a post on its Facebook page that a member who attended prayer at the Windsor Mosque on Friday had tested positive for COVID-19. The mosque is located on Northwood Street and Dominion Boulevard.

Although the post said the member was self-isolating and asymptomatic, the Islamic Association made the precautionary decision to close the mosque.

"In the interest of protecting our congregation and the community at large, we will take extra precautions and close the mosque effective immediately and until further notice," read the post. "During this time, thorough disinfection will be carried out."

The association has also asked anyone attending prayer this past Friday to self-monitor for symptoms. If they experience the most common symptoms like fever, difficulty breathing, a new cough, or loss of smell or taste, members should contact the health unit for further guidance.

Pandemic-control guidelines have been enforced during prayers, read the post, with members required to wear masks, practice physical distancing, and sanitizing hands.
