COVID-19 case confirmed at Windsor's Northwood School

The Greater Essex County District School Board has identified another COVID-19 case at an elementary school.

On Tuesday, Northwood Public School was revealed to have one student testing positive for coronavirus. In a letter sent to parents and posted on the school's website, principal Rob Romano said all necessary procedures were being followed.

"We have been working with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) by providing lists of students and staff who may have been in contact with the individual," wrote Romano. "If you have not been contacted, you or your child[ren] have not been identified as close contacts."

Classes at Northwood will proceed Wednesday as usual. The letter did not mention if any student cohorts were sent home, though that has been standard procedure in the event of a positive case.

According to the board's website, five cases were reported on Monday. They were at Brock Public School, Vincent Massey Secondary School, and Westview Freedom Academy, all in Windsor; A.V. Graham Public School in Tecumseh, and Leamington District Secondary School.

As is the procedure with each confirmed case, students that have been sent home are told to self-monitor for symptoms and continue studies at home. Parents are urged to monitor their children's health each morning before they go to school, and keep them home if they have symptoms or don't feel well.
