Charges laid in fatal hit and run

The Windsor Police Service has formally charged a suspect in connection with a hit and run that claimed the life of a seven-year-old boy.

On Sunday, November 15, 2020, the boy was hit and killed on Jefferson Boulevard near Haig Avenue. The driver of the vehicle that hit the boy did not remain on the scene.

Investigators identified a suspect vehicle and posted pictures on social media. The vehicle was identified on November 19, 2020, and was seized as part of the investigation.

Police were able to verify it was the vehicle involved in the collision.

On Friday, police arrested a suspect believed to have been driving the suspect vehicle at the time of the collision.

Christopher Filiault, 45, is now charged with failing to stop and remain at the scene of a fatal accident, criminal negligence causing death, and obstruction of justice. The charges have not been proven in court.

The Windsor police say the investigation is still ongoing.
