Next round of Gordie Howe International Bridge community benefits is up

Non-profit groups near the Gordie Howe International Bridge can begin applying for next year's round of community benefits.

The application period opened Tuesday for the 2021 round of community benefits, through the five-year investment initiative started by the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA), which oversees the bridge project.

A sum of $50,000 is being set aside for each year of the initiative, with eligible non-profit and charitable groups in both the Sandwich Towne section of Windsor and the Delray neighbourhood of Detroit.

These groups can now apply for funding ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 for any events, programming or infrastructure improvements. Organizations must demonstrate that any grant money awarded will benefit the neighbourhoods anchoring the bridge, which is the largest infrastructure project in Canada.

Requests must also satisfy at least one of the Community Benefits investment priorities, such as community partnerships, community safety and connections, economic benefits, or aesthetics and landscaping.

The deadline to apply is January 27, 2021.

A virtual information session is scheduled for Wednesday, December 9, 2020 for any organizations that are interested in applying. It takes place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and will be streamed live on the bridge project's official website.
