Feds to invest $6.3M in four Windsor-Essex manufacturers

In an effort to help businesses facing economic hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Canadian government is investing just over $6 million to stimulate job growth in Windsor-Essex.

Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages Mélanie Joly and Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk announced on Monday that the $6.3 million FedDev Ontario investment will support the scale-up and growth of four manufacturers in Windsor-Essex.

The investment is expected to create 80 local jobs at Pancap Pharma Inc., Crop Defenders Ltd., Hawk Plastics Ltd., and Whitfield Group.

"We know that by investing in these four manufacturers, they are creating good quality jobs for people in the Windsor-Essex region and supporting the local economy," Joly said in a news release. Our message to Canadian business owners and workers is clear: we’ve long supported the manufacturing industry, we’ve been here for you with immediate measures during the COVID-19 crisis and we will continue to work with you to support good jobs and help Canadian manufacturing come back strong.”

Pancap Pharma Inc. is a pharmaceutical manufacturer of prescription medications located in Markham and Windsor.

Crop Defenders Ltd. in Maidstone produces biological pest control solutions to help growers defend against aphids, which often plagues greenhouse vegetables.

Hawk Plastics Ltd., which is located in Tecumseh, manufactures innovative injection moulded custom plastic parts used primarily for the automotive sector

Whitfield Group in Oldcastle contributes to the automotive sector by providing repairs, engineering changes, along with die-cast and stamping tools.

“This FedDev Ontario investment will help the Windsor-Essex community further develop its network of incredible talent and leading-edge innovation in the evolving manufacturing sector," said Kusmierczyk "These businesses have the capacity to manufacture products for a wide range of sectors, from automotive to life sciences to agri-food, which are diversifying the regional economy."
