Catholic school staff member told to self-isolate

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board has confirmed that a staff member has been ordered to self-isolate after a potential exposure to COVID-19.

Following guidance from the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, a staff member at St. Louis Catholic Elementary School in Leamington was told to isolate themselves for 14 days. It was not clear if the person is a teacher or a member of the support staff.

Catholic board spokesman Stephen Fields said a voicemail was sent to the school's students and their parents over the weekend.

"That message also asked parents to continue to monitor themselves and their children for symptoms of COVID-19 each morning and to remain at home and call your healthcare provider for further direction if they are showing any signs of illness," Fields said in an email to the media.

The school is open to students as usual.

As of Sunday, the board had reported a total of four positive cases of COVID-19, three of them involving students. In each case, parents, staff, and students were notified immediately.
