Easter Seals Telethon successful in spite of COVID-19 hurdles

The Easter Seals Telethon for Windsor-Essex raised an 'impressive' $105,290 to cap off its 38th annual telethon on Saturday.

The event, presented by the Toldo Foundation, helps to raise money in support of children and youth with physical disabilities. This year's telethon looked a little different after being postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but Telethon Chair Ram Sridhar said he was pleased with this year's results. “We are very proud of our team’s ability to pull this show off in collaboration with our partners, and are tremendously grateful to the community who supported us.” Sridhar said in a statement.

All funds raised are used to help families get the equipment needed by their children so they can live with greater independence, dignity, and accessibility. Easter Seals Ontario President and CEO, Kevin Collins said he enjoys seeing the communities within Windsor-Essex come together every year in support of the children in need. "Easter Seals families are eligible to receive up to $3,000 per year per child for mobility and accessibility equipment such as wheelchairs, stair lifts and bathroom equipment," Collins explained.

Though the telethon has concluded, donations will be accepted until November 28, the 98th anniversary since Easter Seals Ontario founded.
