The Windsor-Essex region saw nine new COVID-19 cases on Saturday from a variety of different transmission sources.
According to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, four of the cases are community-acquired, two are travel-related, two are from close contact of a confirmed case and one is a resident of a retirement home.
As of Saturday, there are now 2,900 confirmed cases in the region, 72 of which are active cases. A total of 2,752 individuals have recovered from the virus so far in Windsor-Essex and 76 individuals have passed away.
There are currently three long-term care or retirement homes in COVID-19 outbreak in the region, zero workplace outbreaks and zero school outbreaks.
Meanwhile, health officials in Ontario recorded 1,132 new cases on Saturday, marking the largest single-day increase in cases to date.
According to Health Minister Christine Elliot, there are 336 new cases in Toronto, 258 in Peel, 114 in York Region, 78 in Ottawa, 64 in Halton and 55 in Hamilton.
