U of W reports second positive COVID-19 case in a week

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has notified the University of Windsor about another positive coronavirus case.

The university confirmed Thursday evening that a second case was identified, this one at a student residence. However, the university said that this case is not related to the one reported on Tuesday, and it was not immediately known if the patient was a student.

"The university has taken the necessary steps to initiate self-isolation requirements in consultation with WECHU, which says there is no current risk to the on-campus community," read a media release. "[The university] has implemented enhanced cleaning protocols in affected areas and is providing additional support to any individuals who may be impacted."

Contact tracing has already started to identify anyone who may have had contact with the individual.

In the case identified on Tuesday, the university said that patient was self-isolating off-campus.

This is the third overall case of COVID-19 reported by the U of W community. A student who had been participating in remote learning tested positive in mid-September.
