Electrical failure caused Little River fire

Investigators have determined that an apartment fire that caused $1.5 million in damage was the result of a failure of an electrical wire.

Windsor Fire and Rescue Services completed its investigation into the blaze at an apartment complex on Little River Road on Monday night. It was determined the fire started on the third floor.

The blaze forced 75-100 people from their homes.

Windsor Fire and Rescue Services had scheduled times for the displaced residents to access their units but that has now been cancelled. Windsor fire officials say residents should contact the building owner to gain access to their apartments.

No estimate on how long residents will be displaced has been provided.

City of Windsor social services staff were on hand Saturday and the WFCU Centre was opened in the afternoon so residents would have a place to go. One family was connected with the Community Care Access Centre for support. All other families spoken to by City of Windsor staff indicated they had a place to go, either staying with family or friends.
