Bollywood fundraiser donates $18K for WRH

An online fundraiser broadcasted from India helped to raise over $18,000 for Windsor Regional Hospital.

The Gujarati Samaj of Windsor group held the two-hour virtual fundraiser, featuring Bollywood performances by a professional group in India, back in June.

“This was a record-breaking collection for us,” said Yahwe Dholakia, the group's president. “This was an unexpected response from the people and our members.”

After the two hour performances, about 90 per cent of the group's members donated to the cause, surpassing the organizer's fundraising goal of $5,000 to $11,000.

The money will be used to purchase patient monitors, infusion pumps, and Glide scope blades for the Intensive Care Units.

“The thing that really makes a difference to our staff in the hospital is the support we get from the Windsor-Essex community,” says Karen Riddell, Vice President of Critical Care. “I think this is another example of the selflessness of our community because everyone has their COVID anxiety.”

The group presented the cheque to Windsor Regional Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.
