Windsor police officer facing assault charges

An officer with the Windsor Police Service is facing assault charges after a complaint from an intimate partner.

The incident happened back in June but was not reported until Monday.

The Windsor Police Service contacted the Chatham-Kent Police Service to assist in the investigation.

The officer, who has been with the service for nine years, was arrested on Monday and charged with one count of assault. The charge has not been proven in court. The officer will make their first court appearance in November.

The officer is not being named to protect the identity of the victim who was in a relationship with the officer at the time of the incident.

The officer has been suspended from duty, with pay.
