Leamington school adds new classrooms, child care space

Construction is not expected to start until next summer at the earliest, but plans to expand St. Louis Catholic Elementary School in Leamington are going ahead.

The Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board said six new classrooms would be added on to the west side of the school to accommodate 147 new students.

Another two pre-school classrooms and a toddler room will also create space for 60 more children.

Board officials are working on a schedule for the construction, which will include a complex redesign of the site.

Earlier this year, the board received $3.4 million in funding from the Ministry of Education for the expansion at the Talbot Street school.

"This is tremendous news for the families in this area who choose a Catholic education for their children," said Trustee Mary DiMenna. "Working families are certainly going to appreciate having more daycare options, and the extra classrooms will certainly help accommodate the growth we've seen at this school due to increased student enrolment."

St. Louis Catholic Elementary School offers both English and French Immersion education.
