Health unit reports two new COVID-19 cases in Windsor-Essex

Health officials in Windsor Essex County reported two new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday.

According to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, one of the cases is from close contact with another confirmed case, while the other is still under investigation.

Currently, there are three workplace outbreaks, and one outbreak at an assisted living facility.

The increase brings the total number of cases in the area up to 2,764 since the pandemic began, 2,637 cases have been resolved. The total number of coronavirus related deaths in Essex County remains at 76.

Ontario confirmed 658 new cases on Sunday, the majority of the cases were reported in Toronto, the GTA, and Ottawa. Premier Doug Ford announced the decision to have the York region enter a modified Stage 2 for 28 days following the growing numbers of new cases being reported in the area.

According to Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliot, 40,900 tests were completed for Sunday’s numbers. 685 cases were also resolved.
