Police investigating fatal collision involving a pedestrian

A pedestrian has died after being involved in a collision late Wednesday night.

Windsor police were called to the area of Wyandotte Street East and George Avenue around 11:30 p.m. where it was reported an injured man was in the roadway.

The man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and he was later declared deceased.

"Officers spoke with witnesses at the scene, including a driver of a motor vehicle that may have struck the injured male," said Sergeant Steve Betteridge in a media release.

Officers contained the road and launched an investigation. Wyandotte Street East between George Avenue and Strabane reopened around 4 p.m. Thursday.

The involved car was seized as part of the investigation.

Investigators are looking to speak to any witnesses who saw the collision or who may have witnessed the pedestrian in the area prior to the collision. Anyone who may have surveillance video or dashcam video is asked to review footage and contact the police with any information.

Detectives also want to talk to anyone who may have heard or witnessed anything unusual in the area of Wyandotte Street East near George Avenue in or around 11 p.m.-11:30 p.m. on Wednesday. They are looking for information about why the victim was in the area.

The case is in its initial stages and remains under active investigation by the Major Crime Branch.
