Windsor Regional Hospital ending 'walk-in' COVID testing

In response to recent changes made by the Ontario government, Windsor Regional Hospital is making appointments mandatory for those seeking a COVID-19 test at one of its assessment centres.

Hospital officials said appointments will be required starting on Sunday at both assessment centres at the St. Clair College Sportsplex and at the WRH Ouellette Campus. Walk-ins will cease at the end of the day on Saturday.

The hospital made the changes to the testing model on Friday after the province announced that all tests must be made by appointment only, except for testing at mobile or pop-up testing centres. Premier Doug Ford said the changes will allow assessment centres to conduct enhanced screening and ensure people are not standing outside in the cold during the fall and winter.

In order to schedule a COVID-19 assessment at one of Windsor Regional Hospital's assessment centres, call 519-973-4443. Appointments can be made up to seven days in advance.

At Erie Shores Healthcare, there is an online booking tool, but appointments can also be made by phone by calling 519-326-2373 ext. 4263.

According to the province, an individual should only seek an appointment if they are showing COVID-19 symptoms, if they have been exposed to a confirmed case of the virus, or if they have been in an outbreak setting.
