Transit Windsor to collect fares again soon

Transit Windsor is going to start collecting fares again starting October 19, 2020.

After nearly seven months of rear-only boarding, the service is going to resume front door boarding and fares. Passengers are asked to follow a one-way flow entering from the front and exiting through the back doors.

“I’m pleased that we are able to now balance the risks associated with COVID-19 with running Transit Windsor service across the City of Windsor,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. “Municipalities across the country have taken significant losses, operating transit services without collecting fares for more than six months. We are counting on the province of Ontario and federal government to help support Transit Windsor in the months ahead. In the meantime, we are restarting fare collection, and continuing to offer services across our city and into the county.”

Protective barriers are being installed on all Transit Windsor buses to ensure employee safety. The mandatory mask policy remains in place, and there will continue to be capacity limitations.

Ridership remains well below pre-pandemic measures. In September, ridership was down 60 per cent compared to September 2019.
