More rinks to reopen at Atlas Tube Centre

Hockey players and figure skaters now have more options for ice use in Belle River.

The town of Lakeshore is in the process of reopening two additional ice pads at the Atlas Tube Centre. One of them reopened on Monday.

Parents have once again been given access, with one permitted per skater 18 or under. This way, parents can help skaters with equipment and view what is happening on the ice.

Ice options for the two surfaces currently available will also be available again on weekends, starting this Saturday and Sunday. It will be the first time since mid-March that the ice pads will be open on weekends.

The expansion of ice use at the facility pleases Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain.

"We are happy to get our kids back on the ice again," said Bain. “I want to thank our families for their patience and support throughout this process and remind everyone to continue to follow COVID-19 guidelines so we can continue to reopen our facilities."

Current measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 continue to apply, with physical distancing expected and mask use mandatory.

The town has announced it will soon begin tracking ice users by using this link. All information will be kept confidential.

Guidelines are available on the Town of Lakeshore's official website.
