Windsor police arrest break-and-enter suspect

A 31-year-old man has been arrested and is accused of breaking into at least two buildings.

Investigators from the Windsor police's Property Crimes Unit were conducting surveillance in the early hours of Wednesday, following up on recent reports of break-ins. Around 3 a.m., the officers were in an alley off Wyandotte Street West and Bridge Avenue when they heard what sounded like a person trying to force their way into a building.

A man was seen in the back of a business, inspecting the rear door with a tool in his hand, according to Sergeant Steve Betteridge. The suspect's face was concealed by a black bandana.

When the man was seen trying to break into another building, officers moved in and arrested him.

Andrew Arsenault of Windsor is charged with break-and-enter, attempted break-and-enter, possession of break-and-enter tools, and wearing a disguise while committing a crime. These charges have not been proven in court.

The follow-up investigation revealed that the suspect may have hit at least two other businesses this summer in that neighbourhood.

Anyone with information on this, or any break-in taking place in that area, is asked to call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4350. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
