Testing, transit and sick pay all part of Safe Restart Agreement

The provincial and federal governments have reached an agreement on how funds will be allocated through the Safe Restart Agreement.

The $19 billion agreement was reached back in July, but now all the provincial governments have outlined how the funds will be allocated.

"Fighting COVID-19 and safely restarting our economy requires a Team Canada approach. We will continue to work together with provinces and territories to keep Canadians safe and healthy, and to build a more resilient Canada," said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The Ontario government will use some of its portion to boost the number of tests completed each day in the province. The government has committed to administering 50,000 tests per day by this fall and hopes to boost that to 78,000 over the coming months.

The funds will also be used to assist municipalities with operating costs and to support safe transit systems.

Money has also been allocated to support safe child care and provide income support for people without paid sick leave to stop people from feeling the need to go to work when they are sick.

A full breakdown of how the Ontario government will allocate the federal funding can be found here, in the premier's letter to Trudeau.
