Kingsville residents may be allowed to return home Friday

The Town of Kingsville believes it will have a gas leak at a gas station on County Road 20 repaired and cleaned up by Friday.

Efforts to contain the leak, which started on Sunday afternoon, are ongoing.

A partial state of emergency, declared by the Town of Kingsville on Monday night, remains in effect.

Homes near a gas station on County Road 20 near County Road 23 were evacuated on Sunday and the residents have not returned home since.

"Town administration has briefed the residents displaced by the necessity of evacuation, and is working diligently to bring this incident to a safe and careful close," read a statement from the town.

Wednesday night, a cleanup crew from Sarnia identified a high-pressure natural gas line near the excavation site. Enbridge Gas is shutting down the line so the cleanup can continue.

Meanwhile, County Road 20 remains closed between County Road 23 and McCain Sideroad.
