Predictions of a long gentle fall season on the way

The Weather Network has released its fall outlook, and if you like autumn, you will like the next few months.

Meteorologist Michael Carter told BlackburnNews.com we can look forward to above-average temperatures for the rest of September, October, and November.

"Normal is a moving target through this season," he explained. "During the fall, we are losing two to three degrees on average every week. Where average temperatures in September might look like 21 C, by the time we're into October we're down to 14 C, and by November we're down to about 7 C."

Instead of a quick transition to colder temperatures, Carter predicts a more gentle downward trend towards more winter-like daytime highs.

As for precipitation, he suggested September will be the most unsettled month with some systems moving through Southwestern Ontario, but settling down once the calendar turns over to October.

Those who love the snow will have to wait this year.

"Last year, if you'll recall, we kind of got clobbered pretty early in the season with a blast of winter-like temperatures. We had snow in some parts of the region," said Carter. "This year we're expecting a more gentle transition."

He does not anticipate any significant snowfall events until the beginning of December.
