Tecumseh teen named to Skate Canada National Team

A Tecumseh teen has earned a spot on Skate Canada's 2020-2021 National Team.

Alison Schumacher has one of three spots on the women's team, along with Emily Bausback of Vancouver and Madeline Schizas of Oakville.

Bausback was the 2020 Canadian National Champion.

Schumacher was born in ZhuZhou, China, in 2002. Her family moved to Canada and settled in Tecumseh.

The 17-year-old began skating at the age of five and was the youngest solo skater at Skate Canada's Development Camp six years later.

She finished this year's season at the 2020 World Junior Championships, where she placed ninth, a new personal best.

On the men's team, Skate Canada named Roman Sadovsky, Nam Nguyen, and Keegan Messing.

For pairs, the team named 19-year-old Evelyn Walsh of London and Trennt Michaud of Trenton, along with Kristen Moore-Towers of St. Catharines, and Sarnia's own, Michael Marinaro.

Skate Canada also named four pairs to its Ice Dance team. Piper Giles will compete with Paul Poirier. Margorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha make up the second pair. Carolane Soucisse and Shane Firus, and Laurence Fournier Boudry and Nikolaj Sorensen make up the third and fourth team.
