OPP hands out dozens of tickets in Leamington blitz

Speeders and stop-sign scofflaws bore the brunt of an Ontario Provincial Police traffic blitz last week.

The OPP set up a traffic enforcement operation in the municipality of Leamington on Thursday. The results were announced on Monday afternoon.

The blitz was put together following traffic complaints in the areas of Highway 77, Mersea Road 3, Bevel Line, and the intersections of Danforth at Carolina Woods and Seacliff at Cherry Lane.

With OPP officers concentrating efforts in those areas, dozens of vehicles were stopped and a total of 38 charges were laid.

The most common infraction was the failure to stop completely at a stop sign, which accounted for 18 tickets. Speeding resulted in 15 charges being issued.

Four other violations involved those related to commercial vehicles, and one was an undisclosed charge under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.
