A day after Windsor-Essex entered Stage 3 of reopening its economy, the premier of Ontario will visit.
Premier Doug Ford's visit Thursday includes a stop at the Ford Essex Engine Plant in east Windsor.
Ford will tour the plant in an event closed to the media. The plant was retooled to make face shields for frontline workers working during the pandemic.
Later in the morning, Ford will meet with members of the local Lebanese community and the Consul General at St. Charbel Antonin Maronite Catholic Church.
The visit is intended to show his government's support for the Lebanese community following the explosion at Beirut's main port.
More than 200 people died in the blast, while thousands of others were injured. As many as 300,000 people have been displaced.
The Ontario government has pledged $2 million to the Canadian Red Cross to help those affected by the explosion on August 4.
Thursday afternoon Ford will meet with regional mayors to talk about economic recovery from COVID-19.
Later in the afternoon, Ford will make an announcement with Associate Minister of Transportation Kinga Surma and Labour, Training and Skills Development Minister Monte McNaughton.
Ford will wrap up his trip with a stop in Chatham with a visit to the Chatham Children's Treatment Centre.
Meanwhile, Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca will hold a roundtable with local educators about the return to school plans at the Greater Essex County District School Board and the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board.
