Ice rentals return to Lakeshore starting Monday

Figure skaters and ice hockey players in Lakeshore will have an option for ice for the first time in months.

The town has begun a gradual reopening of the ice surfaces at the Atlas Tube Centre. Starting Monday, ice rentals will resume at the complex's Rink C.

"I know residents will be excited to hear this news," said Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain. "Our sports organizations, parents, players and skaters have been waiting patiently to get back on the ice."

As Windsor-Essex remains under Stage Two of economic reopening, regulations remain in place for people wanting to use the rink. Per provincial health guidelines, ice rentals will be limited to businesses or sanctioned organizations that will have on ice and off ice representatives to help with access control and safety protocols.

Residents will be briefed on the current protocol when they enter the arena. No more than ten people will be allowed on the ice at any given time. This will be the case until the province grants Stage Three status to Windsor-Essex. Only ice participants and their coaches or instructors will be allowed inside the Atlas Tube Centre, and face protection must be worn.

Ice rentals are available weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the remainder of the month of August.

Anyone interested in getting on the waitlist for ice use should call the Atlas Tube Centre reception desk at (519) 727-0470, or email the Town of Lakeshore`s parks and recreation department.
