Region sees significant decline in transmission rate

The region continues to see a sharp decline in the number of new COVID-19 cases with only one new case reported Friday.

According to the latest epidemiological figures released Friday by the Windsor Essex County Health Unit, the transmission rate in the community has also decreased dramatically.

"What we are seeing right now is that our R naught is going down we are seeing a significant decline in the secondary transmission and that is what the public health's goal is," said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health for Windsor-Essex.

He said to see the trend continue people need to continue to diligently self-isolate and maintain physical distance whenever possible.

"If we are containing [positive cases] properly, and by that assumption, we are not missing any cases, that number will continue to go down," said Dr. Ahmed.

There are currently 222 active cases of COVID-19 in the community. Of those 206 are self-isolating, and ten people are in the hospital.

In the last seven days, 35 per cent of cases came from the agricultural sector, 3 per cent were linked to the health care sector and 62 per cent originated in the general community.
