What's open and closed in Windsor on the Civic Holiday?

With the long midsummer weekend upon us, many Windsor-Essex businesses will be closed or on shortened hours Monday.

Monday is the Civic Holiday in Ontario, one of eight provinces in Canada that observe a statutory holiday on the first Monday in August. Many government offices remain closed to the public anyway or are on restricted hours due to COVID-19.

All provincial and municipal offices are closed Monday, including ServiceOntario. Certain transactions may be performed online. The same applies to most banks, credit unions, and financial institutions.

LCBO outlets, which have been closed on Mondays during the COVID-19 pandemic, will be closed on the Civic Holiday. Selected Beer Store locations will be open. Be sure to check with your favourite location to avoid a wasted trip.

Devonshire Mall in Windsor and Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle will both be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tecumseh Mall in Windsor will be open noon to 5 p.m. Not all stores will be open due to the pandemic, with physical distancing guidelines in place and enforced.

All Windsor Public Library branches will be closed Monday for curbside pickup and delivery, plus computer access at the Central branch. All Essex County Library branches remain closed until further notice due to the pandemic.

The 311 call centre will be closed Monday, and open on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 211 call centre will operate 24 hours as usual.

In Windsor, residential garbage collection will not take place on Monday, and be delayed by one day next week. The same applies for residential recycling and yard waste pickup. Commercial trash and recycling collection will proceed as usual.

The public drop-off and chemical waste disposal facilities on Central Avenue are closed Monday.

There is no parking enforcement in the city of Windsor on the Civic Holiday. Street metered parking will be free, though garages and surface lots will be paid as usual. Traffic enforcement payment offices are closed indefinitely, though payments can still be made online.

Transit Windsor buses are running on an enhanced Sunday and holiday schedule. The customer service office at the Chatham Street West terminal will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, while the sales office on North Service Road will be closed.

All indoor recreational facilities, community centres and arenas in the city of Windsor are closed due to pandemic control protocols. However, Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex and the WFCU Centre will be opening on Tuesday for modified summer day camp only, and remain closed to the public for all other activities. Some park amenities are closed, but green spaces and trails are open with physical distancing guidelines.

The COVID-19 donation drop-off site at the WFCU Centre is closed Monday but will reopen Tuesday.

Adventure Bay Family Water Park and Cannon Cove remain closed due to COVID-19 protocol.

Spray pads in Windsor, except for Remington Park and Kim Lucier, will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sandpoint Beach will be open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, weather and water quality permitting.
