Windsor police stop suspect for stolen plates

A 33-year-old man is facing charges after police discovered he was driving with stolen licence plates.

Windsor police say members of its Property Crimes Unit were on patrol Thursday night in the area of Cadillac Street and Alice Street. Around 11 p.m., they spotted a vehicle being driven without its lights on.

The officers changed position to get a better look and confirmed that the licence plates attached to the vehicle had been reported stolen.

The suspect vehicle was stopped on Belleview Avenue off Riverside Drive East. The driver came in contact with the police vehicle, causing minor damage. The driver then tried to run but was apprehended after a short chase.

Melvin Jackson of Windsor is charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000, and two counts of breaching previously-imposed conditions. These charges have not been proven in court.
