Current case rates above the provincial average

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 27 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.

Among the new cases are 13 community cases, eight agri-farm cases, two healthcare workers, and four that are still under investigation.

"Even though we are seeing right now cases, it is still fairly contained in the agri-farm sector mainly and also many of these cases that we are finding right now, they are all linked to the original cases," said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health for Windsor Essex.

Dr. Ahmed said he doesn't think the region moved into Stage 2 too quickly but he's not sure if the region is ready for Stage 3.

"The numbers that we are seeing right now are definitely higher than the provincial average and many other areas of the province so I think that number will definitely be something that may come into play in making any decision to move us forward," said Dr. Ahmed.

There are currently 628 active cases of COVID-19 self-isolating right now while 15 people are in hospital. To date, 1,332 people in the region have recovered from the virus.
