The heat is back on for southwestern Ontario

The heat and humidity are making a comeback.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.

The weather agency is monitoring a tropical air mass that has parked over the region. Temperatures are expected to go back on the upswing starting Friday and stay up through at least Monday.

Afternoon highs could touch the mid-30s each afternoon while humidex readings could crack the low-40s. Lows are expected to reach only the low-20s, providing little relief from the heat.

Air quality can also be adversely affected by high heat and humidity, and can result in the air quality health index reaching the high-risk category.

Cooler and less humid conditions are expected to reach the area on Tuesday.
