Social circles growing as community reopens

The Medical Officer of Health for Windsor-Essex says health unit employees are having to make more contact tracing calls as people are becoming more relaxed with their number of close contacts.

Dr. Wajid Ahmed made the comment Thursday, as the Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 46 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region. Among the new cases are 31 agricultural sector employees, seven close contacts of confirmed community cases, and eight cases that remain under investigation.

Dr. Ahmed said people need to make sure they don't let their guard down as the economy re-opens.

"It is in the best interest of everyone to ensure that our social circles continue to remain as tight and as close as possible to prevent a major spread from one circle to another," said Dr. Ahmed.

The provincial government continues to recommend a strict social circle of no more than 10 people.

There are currently outbreaks at two local long-term care facilities in Windsor-Essex, four agricultural facilities, and one manufacturing facility.

To date, there have been 1,771 cases of COVID-19 in the region, 1,141 people have recovered.
