WECHU reporting seven new cases of COVID-19

The Medical Officer of Health for Windsor Essex is asking people to continue to be vigilant with public health measures as seven new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the region Monday.

The new cases include four community cases and three cases that remain under investigation.

"We're in Stage 2, the pandemic isn't over yet. The COVID-19 hasn't gone anywhere so I think we still need to recognize that and do our part," said Dr. Wajid Ahmed.

He said the more people are out and about, the more risk there is to contract the virus.

"That is something that we all need to act on as a community and take our responsibility to ensure that if you are sick you are staying home and always maintaining 2 metres physical distancing," said Dr. Ahmed.

Since the region has entered into Stage 2 of re-opening, the health unit has followed up on over 200 complaints of businesses and restaurants not following proper guidelines. No tickets or fines have been issued to date.

There are currently outbreaks at three long-term care homes and five workplaces.
