Two grocery store employees test positive for COVID-19

Loblaws has confirmed two employees linked to Windsor stores have tested positive for COVID-19.

An employee at the Real Canadian Superstore on Dougall Avenue and another employee at the Walker Road location have both tested positive.

A statement issued by Loblaw Public Relations said the company is working closely with the health unit.

"We are working with the local public health team and have taken a number of steps to minimize risk, including increased sanitization protocols and enforcing social distancing practices in the stores. Both stores have also arranged for additional cleaning and have since reopened," it said. "Team members who worked closely with these individuals are now at home in self-isolation, monitoring for any symptoms."

Windsor-Essex Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed said the cases have been investigated and there is no evidence of an outbreak at either location at this time.

"We didn't find any connections. Those two are separate and there is no evidence of transmission at the workplace. But I think, as many of the employers do, if they have a case they proactively report and take appropriate measures," said Dr. Ahmed.

On Monday, the health unit reported nine additional cases of COVID-19 in the region.
