2020 Ruthven Apple Festival goes virtual

The Ruthven Apple Festival is the latest event to go online over social distancing concerns.

Planned for September 26 and September 27, this year, the festival will be held virtually.

In past years, it attracted thousands to Colasanti's Tropical Gardens.

"Given the circumstances, it would be very difficult to put the necessary precautions and safety measures in place to keep all festival-goers safe," said Karen Bolger, the executive director of Community Living Essex County.

"Although we know that many people look forward to this annual family tradition, we all agree that we must put the safety and well-being of our community first in the decisions we are making," added Steering Committee Chair, Terry Colasanti.

Over the past four decades, the event has raised more than $1 million for Community Living Essex County.

The organizers plan to release more details about how the event will take shape soon.
