Canada Day fireworks to be held virtually

The City of Windsor is planning a fireworks display for the times. It'll be virtual.

The city has teamed up with snapd Inc. to offer a fireworks display on Canada Day on snapd's Augmented Reality platform.

If you want to watch, you will have to download the snapd HUB app on your mobile device. When the time comes, select "Canada Day event" and follow the prompts.

The display will start at 9:30 p.m., and Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield will lead the final countdown.

The city bills it an event "to help us celebrate and at home -- when we need it most."

The city is also encouraging residents to decorate their porches and yards for the occasion.

You can also decorate a rock, snap a photo, and leave it somewhere in the community for someone to find.

Photos should be uploaded to social media with the hashtag #TimHortonsWE. Those who do can win a Tim Horton's gift card.
