Cycling relay across Windsor Essex raising funds for national memorial

A group of Essex-Windsor EMS are spending two days cycling across Essex County to raise money for a national monument to honour fallen paramedics.

To take into account social distancing measures the group is passing off a memorial bell in a relay to all the different stations across the city and the county.

"All of the is part of the Tour Paramedic Ride that usually takes place from Toronto to Ottawa in September but because of COVID we've had to obviously make changes," says Vickie Laframboise with the Essex-Windsor EMS. "Now the bell is going to go across Ontario instead of the bike riders."

Last year, the Essex-Windsor EMS team raised $4,000 for this cause.

After its journey throughout Windsor and Essex County, the bell will be handed off to paramedics in Chatham-Kent as it makes its way to Ottawa.
