14 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 cases in Windsor-Essex has nearly reached 1,000.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 14 additional cases of COVID-19 in the region on Thursday, bringing the total reported in the community to 996.

Of the 14 new cases, one is an farm worker, six are community-acquired, two are from close contacts, and five are still under investigation.

The health unit tested over 400 people while conducting random testing in Kingsville Wednesday. The drive-thru test facilities are set up in Amherstburg Thursday at the Libro Recreation Centre.

There are still two long-term care facilities being managed for COVID-19 in the region. While there have been no new confirmed cases at the facilities, the health unit is still monitoring staff and residents for any new onset of symptoms. During the month of June, all staff at long-term care facilities will be required to be tested twice. Any resident with any new symptoms will also be tested when necessary.
