Random testing continues in Essex County

There were five positive cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Windsor-Essex in the last 24 hours.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reports three of the five cases are health care workers. They did not have more specific information about where these individuals worked.

The health unit continues random testing Wednesday in the Town of Kingsville at the Kingsville Recreational Sports Field on Jasperson Lane. On Tuesday, the health unit tested over 500 people in Essex through drive-through testing, while 1,700 people were tested at the random testing site in Windsor over the weekend.

"Having local data for that specific community will help us better understand and have a better representative sample from this specific community to say what is the extent of the spread of this disease," said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health for Windsor-Essex.

Dr. Ahmed said this data will help him form public health policy moving forward. Random testing is expected to continue throughout Essex County for the next two weeks.

To date, 982 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Windsor and Essex County, 566 cases have been resolved, and 66 people have passed away from the disease.
