May another rough month for home sales in Windsor-Essex

The COVID-19 pandemic continued to hammer the housing market in Windsor-Essex in May as listings and sales fell for the second consecutive month.

The Windsor Essex County Association of Realtors said total monthly listings fell 36.71 per cent in May compared to May 2019. There were 657 properties listed last month, for a total of 968 properties available for sale.

The number of properties sold dove 38.96 per cent. Just 409 properties changed hands compared to 670 last May.

That is better than April when there were 455 listings and just 286 properties sold.

However, the average price of a home continued to increase. It was $384,311 compared to $336,036 in May 2019. That is an increase of 14.3 per cent.

Real estate agents are still not allowed to hold open houses under emergency orders issued in Ontario because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In response, real estate agents have been holding virtual open houses.
