Police looking for suspect in sexual assault

Windsor police are looking for a suspect involved in a sexual assault that happened in the area of Riverside Drive West and California Avenue Thursday night.

Police said a woman reported she was walking alone along the riverfront near Patricia Avenue when she was attacked from behind. She fell to the ground and was bitten during the assault. She received minor injuries but did not require medical attention.

The victim was able to scream for help and the suspect took off up the hill from the riverfront towards Patricia Avenue.

The suspect is described as a black male, 25-30 years old, wearing a black hooded sweater, loose black pants, and a black baseball hat.

Police are asking anyone who lives in the area with surveillance equipment to check their footage for any suspects matching the description.

The Major Crime Branch is actively investigating this incident and believes this to be a random incident in which the victim and suspect were not known to each other. The incident happened just before midnight. Police believe the suspect was on foot and may have been seen walking in the area before or after the assault.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor Police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.catchcrooks.com.
