Police seek information in year old murder investigation

The Windsor Police Service is appealing for information on the murder of Gerardine Butterfield, one year after her body was discovered.

Police found the 63-year-old woman in her apartment on Wellington Avenue on May 25, 2019. They believe she had been killed several days prior to the discovery of her body.

Detectives said the woman lived alone in her apartment and only allowed very few immediate family members to visit her. They said they believe anyone who was seen leaving the apartment, outside of family members, would be considered suspicious.

Anyone who may have seen anything around the time of the homicide is requested to contact police. Police said even if the information seems unimportant it could be significant to the case.

A person of interest has been identified in the case but police are looking for information from any witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS).
