10 new COVID-19 cases in Windsor-Essex

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is reporting 10 new cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday afternoon.

The total number of cases in the Windsor-area is now at 876 with 893 test results currently pending.

Out of the total cases, 486 were caused by close contact, 211 by possible community spread, 108 from travel and 71 unknown.

Meanwhile, it was another day without any COVID-19 related deaths. So far, 63 people in Windsor-Essex have passed away as a result of the virus.

Starting this coming week, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit will begin random community testing for COVID-19.

The health unit expects to set up trailers or a drive-thru test facilities in every municipality in Windsor-Essex over the next two weeks. Anyone who gives consent will be tested whether they are showing any symptoms or not.

Across Ontario, 460 new cases were reported on Sunday, bringing the provincial total to 25,500. So far in the province, 2,073 have died from COVID-19 and 19,477 have recovered from the virus.
