Local boaters will have one option for launching their vessels starting Wednesday.
The Town of Lakeshore will open the Belle River Marina's boat launch at noon, though the marina's docks and boat slips remain closed. The boat launch will operate according to normal "off-season" protocol until the entire marina is allowed to reopen. There is no cost to launch.
Frank Jeney, Lakeshore's director of recreation and leisure, said people will still be expected to use common sense when it comes to distancing.
"Although the boat launch is reopening, COVID-19 precautions and emergency orders remain in place," said Jeney. "As such, signage is in place at the boat launch reminding residents to practice physical distancing at all times while loading or unloading boats, and while on the waterways."
In accordance with Ontario's emergency orders, the rest of Lakeview Park is still closed. This includes the playground, washrooms, benches, and picnic tables. The splash pad does not typically open until early summer.
