The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is reporting 11 new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths as of Sunday afternoon.
The total number of cases in the Windsor-area is now at 705 with 1,668 test results currently pending. So far, 59 people have died as a result of the virus in Windsor-Essex.
On Sunday, the health unit declared COVID-19 outbreaks in four additional facilities bringing the total number of outbreaks in long-term care and retirement homes for Windsor-Essex to 15.
“We have completed testing of over 4,000 residents and staff in long-term care and retirement homes these past few weeks and were prepared for this. The WECHU is in contact with all long-term care and retirement homes regularly to provide guidance for enhanced health and safety precautions and outbreak management,” said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, medical officer of health.
The facilities currently in COVID-19 outbreak include AMICA, Sun Parlour, Lifetimes on Riverside, Franklin Gardens, Heron Terrace, Country Village Homes, Village at St. Clair, Chartwell Oak Park LaSalle, Berkshire, Chartwell Kingsville Retirement Residence, Riverside Place, Chartwell Oak Park Terrace Retirement Residence, Leamington Mennonite Home, Dolce Vita Retirement Living and Extendicare Southwood Lakes.
From Saturday to Sunday, three more cases were listed as being resolved in Windsor-Essex. This brings the total number of people in the region that have recovered from the virus to 266.
Across Ontario, 294 new confirmed cases were reported on Sunday, a 1.5 per cent increase from Saturday’s figures, bringing the total number to 20,238. So far in the province, 1,634 have died from COVID-19 and 14,772 have recovered from the virus.
